Saturday, April 11 at the Anvil Centre in New Westminster, following the Field Directorate Special Session, the BCLA will host a Town Hall to share the proposed new bylaws for the Association. The updated bylaws are intended to bring the organization into compliance with the BC Societies Act, align with leading sport governance practices, and modernize BCLA’s governance structure.
The Board believes it is important that members have the opportunity to review the changes and provide feedback. The Town Hall will include a presentation of the proposed bylaws, a question-and-answer period, and information on how members can submit concerns or suggestions following the event.
The Town Hall will begin at 3:30 PM and will be followed by a networking opportunity. Appetizers will be provided by BCLA, and a no-host bar will be available.
There is no cost to attend, however participants will be asked to register in advance to help us plan seating and catering. A link to registration will be made available at the end of March.
For those unable to attend, a recording of the event will be made available.
Once feedback has been received and the Board has had the opportunity to make any necessary changes, members will be asked to vote on the new bylaws. That meeting may be in person or via zoom or a hybrid of in person and zoom. The meeting notice will come pursuant to the requirements of a Special Meeting.
In advance of the April 11 event, BCLA will also host at least two Zoom education sessions on governance, led by Andy Watson of Now What Facilitations. These weekday evening sessions will be 60-90 minutes long and will provide members with an opportunity to learn more about governance principles and the requirements of the BC Societies Act for both BCLA and its members.
We strongly encourage associations, directorates, groups, and leagues to have representatives participate. Additional details about these sessions will be shared in the coming days.
